About

“Mark Shields is a singer songwriter from a small port town in Scotland called Greenock close to Glasgow. He has a musical sensibility like that of “The Script” and his heartfelt songs are reminiscent of other singer/songwriters such as David Gray and Damien Rice!

He began singing in high school choirs and musicals and at the age of fifteen began to teach himself how to play guitar. This was, at that time, a hobby and he went on to perform at school shows as a solo act. This is when the bug began to hit him and when he moved to Manchester, England, at the age of 18 he spent most of his free time performing when possible with other singers in the area. His first close call for success came at the age of 21 when he auditioned for a UK reality TV show for songwriters called “Fame Academy”. Mark made it down to the final 80 of 10,000 applicants.

Despite not being selected for the actual show this gave Mark the confidence to realise his potential as a gifted songwriter, something he was originally reluctant to call himself. Mark had a new fire burning inside and set out to achieve his goal as a successful songwriter.

These dreams were nearly cut short in 2005 when Mark was advised by doctors he could permanently damage his voice due to passive smoking in the hospitality industry. Mark immediately left his job and focused on rehabilitating and after this 3 year struggle the results have been immense.

Before leaving the UK Mark finished recording his first E.P “Receipt of My Thoughts” which contains his song “Broken Promise” which reached the semi-finals of the UK songwriting contest. This selection of songs demonstrates Mark’s ability to express heartfelt emotions through sincere lyrics and beautiful melodies. A songwriter inspired by his travels, the people he meets and his relationships from Europe, India and the U.S, he has recently embarked on a worldwide trip to find further inspiration to create and promote his music which has brought him to Vancouver!”
